Family Portraits for the Annual Christmas Card

My kid, Eimear, went to Montessori school with Keira and Henry way back in the day. Danielle and Steve are both lawyers working out of San Diego but living in Bend. It’s a busy life for them.

Up until this year we would get a fabulous Christmas card from them with multiple portraits and stories of their year. I always loved the pictures and the way they were presented in a trifold card made out of a fairly heavy stock. It’s always a first rate Christmas card.

This year they asked if I could be their photographer. Their usual photographer had a baby and was taking a break from doing family portraits.

Here’s my first thought: “Oh man, am I good enough for their fabulous cards?” This thought always crosses my mind and won’t know if it’s true until after getting busy doing portraits. Looking at the tiny pictures on the back of the camera while working usually assuages the worries.

The fall colors in the aspen stand on the side of the dirt road leading to Tumalo Falls really looks spectacular for about five days every year. We got lucky and hit the colors perfectly. The leaves created a beautiful glowy yellow color all around us and I worked hard to try and show this in the pictures.

We did the pictures with the Profoto light adding some extra pop. I’m hoping they enjoyed the pictures as much as I did taking them. They’ve probably already mailed this year’s card and I’m looking forward to seeing what they did with my work.
