Senior Portraits in Shevlin Park

I've known Dane's parents, Scott and Tonya, since before Dane was born. Crazy how time flies and next thing you know it's time for senior portraits. We wanted to do the portraits with some nice fall colors and tried to meet up at the aspen stand near Tumalo Falls the week before but missed each other. So we made sure to nail down the exact time and the exact place to meet and get these portraits done.

Shevlin is one of my regular portrait photography spots at all times of the year because it's close to my house and there's many locations for doing nice pictures. You have the tiny trail through the aspens, some logs, the creek, the footbridge over the creek, etc. In a very short time a photographer can get at least ten different compositions going. In the late afternoons of summer the sun goes behind the western hill of the canyon, leaving a very nice even lighting in the background. Then all I have to do is point my Profoto light in the right direction and make some nice pictures. Fall and spring are the best because in the fall the aspens transform into a golden Monet painting and bright new green painting in the spring.

Scott and Tonya both are physical therapists here in Bend. Scott and his longtime friend and collaborator Rob started Alpine Physical Therapy in the mid-2000's. Some of my landscape pictures adorn their walls and I regularly do mugshots of new therapists. Since my knee replacement surgery last month I've been a patient. The knee replacement is a big reason why I haven't been posting anything for awhile. It's been a really tough recovery for me.

Anyway, here's a couple more pictures from Dane's portrait session in Shevlin Park.

Dane on one of the logs near the golden aspen trees. Profoto with the pop-up 3 foot octabox to the left. The pop-up octabox really does the trick.

Same log, different pose. Keep it quick and simple.

I saw this picture idea from about a hundred yards away. The Profoto with the octabox was hidden behind the tree to the left.
