Madison and Triston in a Backyard Wedding in Sunriver

Madison and Triston had a fun wedding in her parents backyard

Every time I see this lead photo it reminds me of how just before shooting it Madison said, “Are we almost done?” My answer was, “Give me three minutes and this will be the best picture of the day.” There’s times when a photographer needs to stop being the photojournalist and start being the portrait photographer. This was one.

One unique event occurred when Madison, her mom, and her bridesmaids all floated up to the backyard in a houseboat. It was both fun and a feat of organizing a photographer doesn’t frequently get to see at a wedding. The blue water and green grass really looked nice in the warm summer sunshine.

Triston served in the U.S. Army and his groomsmen were mostly army buddies. I’ve done a few weddings now with former military members and have to say what a great group of people they always are to work with. I would encourage any young person who maybe doesn’t quite have a life plan all set out to give serious thought to the military.

Madison is working while going to college and impressed me with her determination. I love encountering people with that undefinable internal spark of working towards a goal. They’re the people who push society forward.

Madison’s mom made the bouquet with baby’s breath. I really enjoy seeing key wedding items made at home with love. “It’s what Madison wanted!”

They held the reception in a white tent out front. I personally love the white tent receptions because the ceilings make perfect giant soft boxes to bounce my Profoto onto and hit the entire room with nice, even, directional lighting. All I have to do is adjust the ISO depending on how close or far the pictures get made from the light source.

The last picture of the day of them walking out through the sparklers found me just guessing at the exposure and miraculously getting it just right. I love when that happens.
